Brief Bio:
1967 - While in High School began studying Shotokan Karate under Rei Nayomiya.
1972 - Received Shodan - 1 Degree Black Belt
1974 - Received Nidan - 2 Degree Black Belt. Transferred to SUNY New Paltz and established a small Shotokan Karate Club.
1975 - Shihan Nayomiya resigned from the JKA in Tokyo, Japan. He met with all of his highest ranking Yudansha in New York State to discuss establishing a new system based on Japanese Karate. Ryu Renshi - Dan “informally” established.
1977 - Shihan Nayomiya passed away. His wife, Yumi Nayomiya, appoints Jose L. Guzman, Chief Instructor of dojo. Shihan Nayomiya is buried in Japan and his wife and children remain there. The dojo located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. is closed and The Ryu Renshi -Dan Karate Inc. - Hombu Dojo is established in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. by Jose L. Guzman who at the time was a social worker at The Children’s Village.
1980 - Co-founder of the North Eastern Martial Arts Council (NEMAC)
1984 – 2007 - Promoted and directed 23 National & International Tournaments in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. The Ryu Renshi - Dan Martial Arts Championships.

3rd - 5th Dans - NEMAC - GM’s Richard Waller & Ralph Viggiano, Black Belt Directors of Testing.
